Taipei European School welcomes applicants for the above post, to take up the position in the British Secondary and High School Section of Taipei European School in August 2022.

We are looking for candidates whose dynamism, commitment, and proven track-record that would equip them to take on this exciting and challenging role. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and skilled communicator. They will have the ability to inspire and lead.


The Deputy Head is responsible to the Head of the British Secondary and High School Section for all curriculum, teaching and learning issues in the British Secondary and High School. The Deputy Head is a SLT member and as such is expected to contribute to and lead strategic planning, designated focus areas and policy development in the BSHS. The Deputy Head will be required to deputize for the Head in their absence and support and lead other members of the SLT as required. The Deputy Head will be required to lead and manage BSHS initiatives and reviews as assigned by the Head. The Deputy Head is also expected to work closely with SLT from other Sections’ towards achieving school priorities and ensuring high quality teaching and learning experiences.

  • Deputize for the Head as required.
  • Review, develop and implement Section policy and procedures as directed by the Head.
  • Liaise with other members of the SLT to produce and implement strategic planning, action plans, and policy and procedure in the Section.
  • Lead and manage the Professional Development Programme.
  • Support and advise other members of the SLT.
  • Respond to any concerns with the delivery of the curriculum, teaching and learning in the Section, including the IB programme. This will be done in close liaison with the relevant Assistant Head and/or IB Coordinator.
  • Support key aspects of school operations (timetable, systems).
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve in order to ensure high quality teaching and learning, and smooth school operations.
  • Support student admissions and teacher recruitment when required.
  • Along with the SLT oversee pedagogical practices within the school to ensure high quality Teaching and Learning occurs.
  • Monitor the quality of Teaching and Learning within the school and provide assistance and support when required to individual teachers and departments.
  • Keep up to date with curriculum developments and research supported ‘best practice’.
  • Establish and monitor procedures for long term planning for Heads of Department regarding course overviews (scope and sequence) plans for all subjects and courses.
  • Along with SLT liaise with Primary, German Section and French Section to ensure smooth transition of students between curricula.
  • Contribute to the Performance Development and Professional Development of all staff in the Section. This includes working closely with the SLT in developing and overseeing common protocols for class teachers.
  • Perform such other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Section Head.


Qualification and experience
A degree and professional teaching qualification is essential, an advanced degree preferably in School Management and Instructional Leadership
At least 10 years in teaching (ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate and/or the English National Curriculum).
A minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership position as a Deputy Head or Assistant Head, committed to delivering excellence in education (academics, wellbeing, co-curricular activities, student leadership).
Experience leading curriculum design/innovation.
Experience in leading/innovating school operations.
