  • Overview

    Taipei European School welcomes applicants for Assistant Head of Curriculum Leadership to commence in the British Secondary and High School Section of Taipei European School in August 2020. This position has become available due to the promotion of the current post holder to Deputy Head.

    We are looking for candidates whose dynamism, commitment and proven track-record qualify them to take on this exciting and challenging role. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and skilled communicator. They will have the ability to inspire and lead.

    Responsibilities

    Curriculum Leadership

    • Line manage the Curriculum Leadership Team and work with the Deputy Head to provide support and guidance around emerging curriculum trends so that practice is current and responsive.
    • Monitor the quality of Teaching and Learning within the school and provide assistance and support when required to individual teachers and departments.
    • Keep up to date with curriculum developments and research supported ‘best practice’
    • Establish and monitor procedures for long term planning for Heads of Department regarding course overview plans for all subjects and courses (scope and sequence).
    • Along with SLT liaise with Primary, German Section and French Section to ensure smooth transition of students between curricula.
    • Make recommendations to the SLT about the addition of courses at Key Stage 3, IGCSE and IB to the curriculum offerings in the BSHS.
    • Work with the Deputy Head to create a culture of Teaching and Learning that has learning, professionalism and student progress at its heart.
    • Build a collegiate learning culture and create opportunities for collaboration between and support for colleagues to develop best practice.
    • Advocate best pedagogical practice by modelling high quality instruction within and beyond the classroom.
    • Demonstrate and articulate high expectations of instructional practice when working with colleagues.
    • Work with BPS SLT colleagues to articulate curriculum areas and pedagogical practices where appropriate to ensure a continuity of learning experience that makes sense to students and parents.
    • Annually update the BSHS Teaching and Learning guiding document so that it clearly articulates the BSHS pedagogical vision.
    • Monitor the quality of teaching across the school and ensure that success is shared and celebrated as well as issues or areas of weakness are dealt with immediately and robustly.
    • Support the work of the Deputy Head in leading on pre/performance management processes with colleagues whose teaching is identified as requiring improvement
    • Coach colleagues to enable them to meet their professional targets.
    • Work with the Deputy Head to lead the development of an innovative and creative curriculum that meets the requirements of our accredited bodies (CIE, CISWASC and IBO) but also the needs of our students and unique context.
    • Work with the Deputy Head and Assistant Head: Student Wellbeing on developing integrated curriculum projects with a focus on our mission and vision as well as a commitment to internationalism.
    • Work with the Assistant Head: Student Progress to ensure that effective systems are in place to monitor and support student progress.

    Support the Deputy Head in the leadership and management of Performance Development and Review, Induction and Probation processes in the BSHS

    • Lead members of the Curriculum Leadership Team in ensuring the PDR process is effectively and efficiently managed.
    • Consult with SLT to plan and lead dynamic, balanced and efficiently organised Induction Weeks, and support the Deputy Head with the leadership of new teachers during the Term 1 Probation process

    Lead and manage key school activities pertaining to your position.

    • Liaise with other members of the SLT to manage agreed Focus Areas, Calendar and Policy in the BSHS. .
    • Lead on designated whole school events as a representative of SLT.
    • Contribute to the leadership of the whole school as per direction from the Head of School, eg. leading designated committees/review processes.

     

    Teaching

    • Consistently model the highest possible standards of teaching planning, preparation and delivery.
    • Teach allocated classes and participate in CCA’s as required.

     

    Other general/administration
    Other duties as directed by the Head of BSHS.

    Qualifications

    Attainments required:
    Fully qualified teacher.
    At least 10 years in teaching (ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate and/or the English National Curriculum).
    A minimum of 3 years in a middle or senior leadership position, committed to delivering excellence in education.

     

    Attainments preferred:
    A Masters in Educational Leadership or similar field.
    Previous Assistant Head of Secondary and High School experience.
    Previous experience working in Asia.
